Football Expectations

We are looking forward to another successful year here at SHS.  The goal of the Spartanburg High School football program is to build young men of character. To foster an atmosphere of hard work, effort, and discipline that leads to avenues outside our program.  We strive to push the student-athletes to accept the idea that we can be champions while respecting our traditions and expectations.  As a coaching staff we want to create an environment that will push our young men to make positive life choices, one in which all can do.  Our plan for student-athletes is to create a family atmosphere in the hopes that they will build on our tradition and understand the responsibility of passing on the life-lessons learned here to their family and friends.
A typical practice begins immediately after school.  Athletes can expect to take part in pre-practice conditioning, individual position development, and team scrimmages.  C-Team and J.V. games will be held on Thursday nights, and Varsity on Friday nights.
The Vikings football program is open to 9th-12th graders.  Athletes will be assisted with their academic studies when needed. Discipline in the school and in public will be expected of our athletes at all times.  Aside from teaching the fundamentals of the game, our athletes are expected to take part in off-season training.  Off-season training includes speed and strength conditioning, spring training, and summer 7 on 7 practices/tournaments.  We will prepare, practice and compete to achieve victory on the field, in the classroom, and in life.
